YDance & Virgin Trains win International Award

YDance and Virgin Trains has won the prestigious International Award at the Arts and Business Scotland Awards 2015, held last night at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.  Winning for the partnership’s commitment to bringing 450 young people from across the Commonwealth to Glasgow in 2014 for the first ever Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival.

YDance was able to deliver the Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival in July 2014, bringing together youth dance groups from Australia, Canada, England, India, Malta, Namibia, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Singapore, Wales and across Scotland to Glasgow for three days in July 2014.

Festival sponsors Virgin Trains provided free transportation for 13 groups from 5 countries.  Bringing groups from Australia, England, India, New Zealand and Scotland into Glasgow Central Station where their fellow Festival performers welcomed them.  Performing a fusion of Aboriginal and traditional Scottish dance the groups danced on the station concourse as a piper provided music.

The support of Virgin Trains enabled many groups who would otherwise be unable to make the trip to Glasgow to participate in the first ever Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival, making the event a truly diverse celebration with 11 corners of the Commonwealth represented.
