YDance announce two selected for mentorship

YDance is proud to announce both Sara Kemal and Samuel Burkett have been selected for Scottish Ballet’s Anserinae Choreographic Scheme.

Sara, YDance Dance Development Officer and Samuel Burkett, member of the National Youth Dance Company of Scotland, are two of five who will begin the mentorship scheme in February 2016 with internationally renowned mentor, choreographer, performer and teacher Kerry Nicholls.

Sara and Sam will be required to create a new piece of choreographic work inspired by Scottish Ballet’s spring production of Swan Lake and will undergo intensive workshops with Kerry before their work is performed at Festival Theatre (Edinburgh) as part of an exclusive sharing.

Sara Kemal said: “I’m really looking forward to working with Kerry because she has so much experience and I’m interested to see how that will feed into my own choreographic work.  I’m looking forward to being challenged and creating new work inspired by Scottish Ballet’s Swan Lake.”

Samuel Burkett said “When I saw the opportunity to explore choreography I jumped at the chance.  I think this mentorship with really help me to have a stronger choreographic voice.  Simply being offered the opportunity has boosted my confidence.  I’m so excited to create new work.”
