YDance Shortlisted for Charity of the Year

YDance, Scotland’s national dance organisation for children and young people, has been shortlisted for the prestigious Charity of the Year award at the Scottish Charity Awards 2015. Inclusion in the shortlist is a result of the organisations commitment to delivering an outstanding programme of work throughout the previous year.

The Charity of the Year Award recognises excellence and YDance is one of six finalists. The nomination relates to YDance’s achievement in inspiring and motivating over 3,000 young people in 2014 to increase their physical activity through dance across three key projects; Message Unknown, the Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival and YDance Active.

In addition to the company’s core work, last year YDance successfully delivered the Message Unknown project to 120 children from four Glasgow Primary schools, brought 450 young people from 11 Commonwealth countries to Glasgow to perform in three sold out evenings at Tramway (Glasgow) during the Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival and inspired over 2,500 teenage girls in Scotland to increase their physical activity through dance.

Carolyn Lappin, Executive Director, YDance said:

“YDance is more than thrilled to be shortlisted for the Charity of the Year. We had a truly magical and successful 2014 and to be recognised for that is a real celebration of the team’s hard work and devotion to youth dance in Scotland and beyond.”

Organised by Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO), the Awards celebrate the amazing work of charities, community groups and people across Scotland who dedicate themselves to making Scotland a better place to live.

Martin Sime, Chief Executive, SCVO, said:

“All the finalists have shown that they go the extra mile to help others. So much of that work goes unseen and unheard, but the Scottish Charity Awards shines a light on it so we can all say a big thank you.”
