Examples of Projects
Forward Moves (South Lanarkshire): an ongoing project which began in Summer 2002. Forward Moves is designed to encourage team work, provide a sense of achievement, and build self esteem in young people, in order to improve their chances of successful employment in adulthood. (Produced in association with South Lanarkshire Council, Careers Scotland and funded through the New Opportunities Fund)
Girls in Sport (South Lanarkshire): began in Autumn 2003 and will run for three years. Girls in Sport was created to encourage teenage girls to stay active. The idea is to get girls interested in dance instead of 'traditional' sports like netball and hockey. They can dance like their favourite music stars to music they really enjoy. (In association with South Lanarkshire Leisure and funded by the New Opportunities Fund)
Just Boys (West Dunbartonshire): Two projects which were completed in 2004. Similar idea to Girls in Sport but for teenaged boys. Some of the boys may be in danger of exclusion from school or have behavioural issues, although this depends on individual projects. The main objectives are to get boys focussed and working as a team. It also helps to keep them away from TV and computer games! (Produced with West Dunbartonshire Council)
Active Steps is running from 2003 to 2006 and covers a wide variety of areas e.g. OOSHLA (out of school hours learning activities), working with young people who are in danger of being excluded from school and also general dance workshops. (In association with Fife Council and funded by the New Opportunities Fund)
Club Asylum (West Dunbartonshire): took place in Spring 2004 working with local children in areas where asylum seekers have been integrated into the community. The group works on dance projects which explore cultural identity and racial harmony and integrates the ideas of local asylum seekers. (In association with West Dunbartonshire Council)
