NYDCS invited to perform in India

12 of Scotland’s best young contemporary dancers will travel to India this August to perform at the Dance Bridges Festival in Kolkata.

Established in 2011 by YDance (Scottish Youth Dance), the National Youth Dance Company of Scotland is the flagship contemporary dance company for Scotland’s exceptional young dancers aged 16 to 21.

The Company have been invited to the festival, which runs from 22nd to 29th August, to perform their 2016 piece Maelstrom, choreographed by Anna Kenrick (YDance Artistic Director), and their 2017 piece Re|place (Or, the thing I miss most), by award-winning choreographer, Yael Flexer.

The Dance Bridges Festival is an international dance festival with emphasis on building artistic and cultural exchanges between international and local dance artists, and showcasing and promoting cutting-edge and exciting contemporary choreography through live performances and film screenings. The festival also engages artists in the wider community providing dance education/training opportunities through choreographic residencies, workshops, artists’ talks, internships and further special outreach events.

In addition to the performances by the full NYDCS Company, three company members have also been selected to perform in Under This Weight (Falling) by choreographer Dam Van Huynh, which is being restaged as part of the festival. Taylor Han, Rachel Laird and Adam McArtney will work with other festival artists in this unique performance.

Carolyn Lappin, Executive Director of YDance said:

The Festival represents a fantastic opportunity for the company to showcase young talent from Scotland in contemporary dance on the international stage, and for our young dancers to experience working in a new environment and with partners from a range of different countries.”
