National Youth Dance Performance Line-up Revealed

As tickets for the fifth annual Destinations performance showcase go on sale YDance (Scottish Youth Dance) is delighted to reveal the thirteen Scottish groups selected to perform alongside the National Youth Dance Company of Scotland.  In total nearly two hundred young people will take to the stage at international art space, Tramway (Glasgow) on Saturday 5 March.

Destinations, funded by Creative Scotland’s National Youth Arts Strategy fund Time to Shine, will bring together local and national youth dance talent in an exciting evening of performances.  Audiences can expect an entertaining programme of dance showcasing contemporary, jazz and baratatham dance styles from some of Scotland’s best dance groups ranging in age from 12 to 21.

The groups come from as far afield at the Highlands and were carefully selected by an application process which closed in early January 2016.

Anna Kenrick, YDance Artistic Director said: “The destinations performance is a highlight in the YDance calendar as it is an event that allows the youth dance community across Scotland to come together on one stage to show the diversity and talent we have in the youth dance sector. All these young people have worked hard all year and by performing and watching each other they learn and grow as dancers and people.”

The National Youth Dance Company of Scotland will also perform, premiering the new piece Maelstrom choreographed by Anna Kenrick (YDance Artistic Director).  The Company has worked tirelessly to create the piece which examines the risks of information overload from the modern online world ahead of the 2016 tour which will include a performance at the Ten Thousand Miles Festival in Canberra (Australia).

Colin Bradie, TTS Programme Manager, Creative Scotland, said “Creative Scotland is delighted to be supporting YDance Routes and Destinations through Time to Shine, Scotland’s National Youth Arts Strategy. This inspiring national dance programme has created and developed mechanisms that nurture and celebrate the ambition, enthusiasm and talent of Scotland’s young dancers”

Destinations is part of the nationwide YDance Routes programme designed to inspire, develop and support Scotland’s thriving youth dance community.  As part of this, YDance (Scottish Youth Dance), has been rolling out a range of activities that offer workshops, performances, training and networking events to broaden the horizons of Scotland’s young dancers.

Tickets for Destinations are on sale from Tramway – 0845 330 3501, info@tramway.org, www.tramway.org or in person from Tramway, 25 Albert Drive, Glasgow, G41 2PE.
