BBC Performing Arts Fund

YDance is very pleased to announce we have been awarded a grant by the BBC Performing Arts Fund to allow us to take on a BBC Fellow. Emma Smith will begin her placement with us in the New Year, through the BBC Performing Arts Fellowship Scheme, during which she will develop her skills as a Dance Artist & Choreographer.

Emma gained her HND Professional Stage Dance at Dance For All, Edinburgh, before joining the BA Dance course at Edinburgh College to further her knowledge and experience of Contemporary dance. She has worked as a dancer on stage, and on film and television, before specializing as a teacher and choreographer.
In 2012 and 2013 she worked as a Dance Development Officer with SkyeDance. There, she was given many choreographic opportunities, and she has created original works for the SkyeDance Youth Company, which was most recently selected to be performed at the Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival in 2014. She also assisted on a choreographic commission for the National Galleries of Scotland and Atlas Arts called “The Nation: Live, Faith”.
Emma is thrilled to have been awarded a BBC Performing Arts Fellowship with YDance and hopes that the experience will help her to continue to develop her skills as a choreographer and dance artist within the community.

The BBC Performing Arts Fund is a charity committed to developing new performing arts talent from across the UK. Since it’s inception in 2003 the Fund has awarded over £4m to aspiring musicians and talented performing arts individuals and community groups.
