YDANCE DANCER INVOLVED IN COMMONWEALTH GAMES HANDOVER CEREMONY

The Handover Ceremony in Delhi will be the first public statement to the world that Glasgow will become the next Host City, inviting the Commonwealth to Glasgow in four years time. The Closing Ceremony, which the handover Ceremony is part of, is the event that concludes the Commonwealth Games. It has a celebratory and festival feel in contrast to the more formal Opening Ceremony. It is where the Host City has the chance to leave, through the media, a lasting image of their Games.

YDANCE GROUPS DANCING IN SCOTTISH REFUGEE WEEK

YDance is delighted that the young asylum seekers and refugees who are involved in the Under The Same Sky project are performing at The Tron Theatre as part of Scottish Refugee Week – Wednesday 16 June 2010 at 7.30pm. This is the 3rd time that YDance has presented a performance as part of this annual celebration and the evening’s programme brings together young people from All Saint’s Academy, Shawlands Academy, Lenzie Academy and Springburn Academy. Community groups from Knightswood Church and Red Road Flats will also be performing.

Sarah Stuart Dance Development Officer for YDance has been leading the project and is really looking forward to the performance: ‘All of our young people have been working really hard to get ready for the show on the 16th. We’re bringing together groups from across Glasgow and audiences will get a taste of a few different dance styles in what we hope will be a really fun evening.’

YDance’s Under The Same Sky performance is taking place at The Tron Theatre in Glasgow on Wednesday 16 June at 7.30pm. Tickets priced £5 and £3 for concessions are available from The Tron Box Office.

YDANCE AWARDED FUNDS FROM THE CO-CREATE PROJECT

YDance is delighted to announce they've been awarded funds from the Co-Create Project to sustain and support the delivery of Higher Dance in Inverclyde, Dumfries & Galloway and East Dunbartonshire. This project will fuse dance and technology and continue to develop the relationship YDance has built with schools in this area through the Aim Higher project. It will offer a range of innovative approaches to the teaching and learning of dance through GLOW including:

� The delivery of CPD and choreography sessions through live web cam links to all the involved schools

� The development of a pupil zone within GLOW where participants can chat, share videos, explore different themes, be inspired by a range of stimuli, etc.

� The development of a teacher zone within GLOW consisting of pre-recorded technique sessions, additional choreography class plans, information on classes and training for their personal dance development, examples of professional dance companies work and how to evaluate them Read the Scottish Arts Council press release
